Myers Briggs Type Indicator®
MBTI® or Myers Briggs Type Indicator® is a personality questionnaire that is most often used to help individuals gain an understanding of their own personality preferences. It helps to explain why different kinds of people are interested in different things, prefer different kinds of work, and sometimes find it hard to understand each other-all due to basic differences in how people take in information and make decisions about it. This insight in itself can often aid communication and understanding within teams as well as cross-functional teams.
The MBTI instrument was developed from the work of Carl Jung and particularly his book Psychological Types.
Essentially within the MBTI there are 16 types and a survey will tell individuals which type they are most like. Benefits in a personal development and team building environment include increased personal awareness and understanding colleagues.
Team insights can enable exploration of:
- How similar/different individuals are within the team
- Possible differences in values amongst team members
- The likely openness in the team
- Likelihood of mutual understanding & getting along
- Support of each others ideas & commitment to group solutions
- If the loudest or most persistent team member prevail
- Likelihood of achieving team consensus
- Overall team profile strengths & possible weakness
- Team problem solving approaches
- Turning potential conflict into learning opportunities
